These are the essential beliefs of Iglesia Nuevo Testamento. Each one is anchored in the Bible.
About God
We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are equal in power and glory and share the same nature and perfection (this is called the Trinity).
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!”Deuteronomy 6:4 (NKJV)
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:10, 26
About Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary to reveal God to us and rescue us from sin. He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross, dying in our place, and our justification was secured by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”John 1:14 (NKJV)
Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Corinthians 5:19; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8; Acts 2:18-36; Romans 3:24-25; 1 Peter 2:24
About the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is a person. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; He brings the believer to new birth, baptizes him into the body of Christ, lives in him, and seals him for the day of redemption. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience distinct from conversion, and it is the Spirit who gives spiritual gifts to each believer as He wills.
“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”John 16:8 (NKJV)
John 16:8; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:4-14; Acts 19:6; Acts 10:44-46
About the Bible
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, inspired by Him word for word. They are without error and infallible, and therefore the final authority for our faith and our lives. The sixty-six books are God's complete revelation to man, and we interpret them according to their normal grammatical and historical meaning.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:20-21
About man
We believe man was made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character, and is the supreme object of His creation. Although man has great potential for good, he is marked by a tendency to disobey God. That disobedience is called sin, and sin separates people from God and causes many of life's problems.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2
About salvation
We believe salvation is a gift from God. It comes to man by grace and is received through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”Ephesians 2:8 (NKJV)
John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19
About eternal security
We believe all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are secure in Christ as they walk according to what the Scriptures teach. It is the believer's privilege to rejoice in the assurance of salvation through the witness of the Word, which also forbids using Christian liberty as an excuse to sin.
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”John 6:37 (NKJV)
John 6:37-40; Romans 13:13-14; 1 Corinthians 9:27; 10:12; Galatians 5:13
About eternity
We believe people were created to exist forever: either separated from God by sin, or united with Him forever through His forgiveness and salvation. Eternal separation from God is hell; living in eternal union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are real places.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”John 3:16 (NKJV)
John 3:16; John 5:24; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46
Our way of life
What we practice.
Beliefs mean nothing unless they turn into action. So, based on what the Bible teaches, we hold to these seven practices.
-
The Bible is our only authority
Since the Word of God is the only true and reliable authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living. Facing any decision, our first question is: “What does the Bible say about it?” We practice daily Bible reading, Bible study, and Scripture memorization.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
-
Autonomy of the local church
Christ, not a person, group, or religious organization, is the head of the church. We recognize the value of partnering and cooperating with other Christian groups, but we believe each local church should govern itself.
“And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”Colossians 1:18 (NKJV)
-
Priesthood of the believer
The Bible teaches that every believer is called to full-time Christian service, whatever their vocation. Every believer is a minister, and each one has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading.
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
-
The tithe
At Iglesia Nuevo Testamento we practice tithing to support the body of Christ, the church, as God teaches in His Word. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the biblical standard for giving.
“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's. It is holy to the Lord.”Leviticus 27:30 (NKJV)
-
Baptism by immersion
We practice baptism by immersion in water, the way Christ was baptized and the way the Bible teaches.
“Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”Colossians 2:12 (NKJV)
-
Filled and led by the Spirit
We believe the only possible way to live the Christian life is through God's power in us. We seek a daily life that depends on God and His Spirit to help us do what is right.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”Romans 8:14 (NKJV)
-
Telling others about Christ
It is every Christian's responsibility to share the good news with the people God brings into their life each day, to speak to them personally about Christ, and to invite friends to church.
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)
